It is a crossword where the clues sit inside the grid itself instead of in a separate list. A small arrow next to each clue points to the square where the answer starts and the direction it runs. Everything you need is on screen at once, which is what makes the format so comfortable on a phone. In some countries it is also known as a Scandinavian crossword or “skeleton” crossword.

Tap a clue or any empty square to select a word — the squares that belong to it are highlighted and the clue appears above the keyboard. Type with the on-screen keyboard; the cursor moves along automatically. When the last letter of a correct word goes in, the word locks and turns gold. Use the arrows beside the clue bar to jump to the next or previous word.

Yes. The lightbulb button in the top bar reveals one letter of the word you have selected. Every puzzle comes with three free hints; after that you may watch a short video to earn another one. Letters that were revealed by a hint stay marked so you always know which ones you solved yourself.

Always. Every letter is saved the moment you type it, so you can leave mid-puzzle and come back days later. If you are signed in to iCloud, progress also follows you to your other iPhones and iPads automatically — no account needed.

A fresh puzzle appears every day on the home screen. Solve it and your streak grows by one; miss a day and the streak starts again. The dots under the date show your last seven days. You can turn on one gentle evening reminder from your profile — it only fires if you have not played that day.

No. All puzzles that come with the app work completely offline — on a plane, on the underground, anywhere. A connection is only used to download new puzzle packs when they are released, and to show ads.

Tap the profile button in the top right corner of the home screen. There you will find switches for sound effects, vibration, reminders, and the light / dark appearance of the game.

Yes — profile → “Reset progress”. This clears solved puzzles, statistics and streaks on this device and in your iCloud copy. It cannot be undone.

Leaderboards run on Apple Game Center. Make sure you are signed in under iOS Settings → Game Center. Scores are submitted when you finish a puzzle, and Apple may take a minute to refresh the ranking.

Both, in the sense that we deliberately avoid words whose spelling differs between them — you will not be asked for COLOUR / COLOR or THEATRE / THEATER, because a crossword answer has to be unambiguous. Clues stay away from region-specific trivia for the same reason.
